From the salsas and descargas of Cali, Medelliin and Bogota to the afro - sounds and raw cumbias of Cartagena and Barranquilla, this compilation is compiled exclusively from the Disco Fuentes label and offers a superb insight into the music played at the dances in Colombia during the 1960s and 70s.
The unique mixture of latin sounds and Afro- rhythms are influenced by the New York and Puerto Rican latin music scenes, the highlife and rumba of West Africa and the calypso of the Caribbean as well as the tropical rhythms of the Colombian cumbia, gaita, fandango and porro.
Driving percussion, swinging horns, hot pianos and jumping basslines - this music was made for dancing.
