Stealin' James is DJ Format's modern day cut 'n' paste tribute to the music of the sadly deceased Godfather of Soul, James Brown. It is very much in keeping with the style of the classic JB 'cut-up' records such as Coldcuts 'Payback mix', Double D & Steinski's 'Lesson 2' and of course 'Feelin' James', reputedly the work of Danny Krivit. Part 1 kicks off with the well known intro to "Get Up, Get Into It and Get Involved" before firing through intricately layered and perfectly timed samples of all the well known and well loved breaks. Not just confined to the work of The Godfather himself, it takes in the productions of his closest collaborators and family of musicians whilst giving a nod to some of the hip hop records that sampled the tracks and introduced a whole new generation of people to his timeless music. Whilst avoiding some of the more cliched areas of the JB catalogue, Format makes use of the advances in technology since the days of the original cut-up records by chopping up and time-stretching different well know (and not so well known!) riffs & solos and re-assembling them in a completely new way. It is great testament to the quality and quantity of music to come out of the James Brown stable, so much that he had to make a second part to the track, as a result of simply not being able to fit all of the legendary musician's music into Part 1. So, put the needle on the record and relive those special breaks and hooks we've all grown to love, specially crafted for you in a totally new and unique way.
