Friday rolls around again and the shelves are heaving here down at Kudos HQ, so let's take a look at the records and CDs we've got shipping this week.
First up, a biggie from Portico Quartet on Gondwana. Memory Streams is the fifth LP from the former Mercury Prize nominees and continues the trajectory set on previous releases of constantly evolving the bands sound, whilst retaining a familiar mix of contemporary jazz and electronica.
A new label hits the ground running this week, Zehra releasing Maleem Mahmoud Ghania & Pharoah Sanders legendary 1994 sessions The Trance of Seven Colours on vinyl for the first time. A lavish double LP set, this mesmerising, percussive LP is an important ritual artefact of Gnawa trance music by two master players.
Finnish jazz collective WeJazz bring us an album from Petter Eldh & Koma Saxo this week, available on CD or red or black vinyl. Koma Saxo are five of the most accomplished musicians working on the Nordics/Berlin jazz axis and this deep and groovy album shows them at their best.
Touch collect their recent CD releases from organist Claire M Singer on double LP - finally - these long awaited, magical organ pieces sounding at their absolute best on the vinyl format. Limited quantities so move quick.
Editions Mego continue their reissue series of the Dome back catalogue, with Graham Lewis' and Bruce Gilberts post-Wire project putting out five long-out-of-print albums this welcome reissue of the third in the series comes at just the right time.
Further albums this week come from Italian electronic-jazz-fusion outfit Strata-Gemma on Fly By Night, Sparrows with a veritable smorgasbord of collaborators on flau, JAK3 with some dystopian cyberpunk sonics on Origin Peoples, plus releases from No Wahala, Gustaff and Unique.
Datassette land on CPU with Kestrel Manouvers in the Dark - a surefire contender for 12" title of the year - a collection of four Analord-esque braindance tracks to satisfy even the most ardent of IDM fans. We also have a wide selection of back catalogue 12" titles in from OOH Sounds. Artists include Oliver Coates & Spatial, Georgia & Bellows and Sim Hutchins and Dale Cornish.
7"s this week include the latest from nascent reiusse label Pressure Make Diamonds, this time with a rare serving of Bahamian deepfunk from Babalu and his Headhunters, there's a trio of titles from the always trustworthy Names You Can Trust, a late-sixties Philly joint from Andy Aaron on Tramp, plus the third excurison into Dr Rubberfunk's 45 singles on Jalapeno.
