SUSTAINED

SUSTAINED is a new collaborative dialogue between interdisciplinary artists Ekaterina Bazhenova-Yamasaki and Maria Gorodeckaya. 'vii' was a live improvisation from March 8, 2024, performed at the Doyenne label residency at Ormside Projects in London.

Drawing upon a collection of memories and discussions concerning rituals, yokyoku, birth, interpersonal challenges, spiritual connection, as well as themes of heartbeats and heartbreak. The project's original soundscape is composed of field recordings from China and Japan, integrated with analogue live recordings created by Ekaterina and subsequently reworked and developed into an album through a collaborative process with Maria.

Ekaterina Bazhenova-Yamasaki is an interdisciplinary artist working between London and Los Angeles. Her practice spans photography, video, and experimental sound, often drawing from cinema and literature as philosophical frameworks. Her work explores noise, drone, and psychoacoustic phenomena as ways of probing perception and the conditions of experience. Recent live performances include Camden Art Centre, Cafe OTO, and IKLECTIK. In 2024, she curated and self-published The Resonant Frequencies of Buildings, a collaborative project examining political and cultural dimensions of sound and listening. Maria Gorodeckaya is an artist and DJ who lives and works in London, UK. Her work combines photography, sound, performance and sculpture as an investigation into the power dynamics within which identities are determined through both affective and affected bodies.
