Just A Disco

A 4 track house ep (36m 13s) — released November 25th 2022 on Evil Plans

"Just A Fucking Disco!" A term synonymous with the late Andrew Weatherall. A term I heard Andrew use, in his interview for Television Blues back in 2016 and one that resonated with me personally. For me it was refreshing to hear someone so revered in club land, have such a down to earth perspective and one which aligned with my own thinking. I never met Andrew in person but I guess that's one of the reasons why so many loved him. Perhaps he came across just as down to earth as they were.

It was after Andrews passing that I had the idea to create a track that used this narrative as a theme. So I contacted Chris Hall at Start Productions who was responsible for the Television Blues Interview. Chris was kind enough to provide sample clearance. In terms of how I wanted he track to sound, I first heard Andrews productions back in the early 90's so I was keen for the music to have sense of that time.

I was also aware of the sensitivities associated with using Andrews's voice in a track. I didn't want to be thought of as a "Grubby Little Opportunist". It was with this in mind that approval was sought from Andrews nearest and dearest, on the basis that all proceed from the release will be donated to one of Andrews's previously nominated charities.

In truth I never had any desire to gain anything from this release or indeed from any of my own music. I make tunes because I am compelled to do so and whilst I sincerely hope you enjoy them, it doesn't really matter because it's just a fucking disco.

Special Thanks:

Paul Dickie @ https://okdickiedokey.com/ who's brief for the artwork was simply the words "Andrew Weatherall" & "Music as Religion".

Chris Hall @ http://www.startproductions.net/ who authorised the sample clearance

Brother Joseph @ https://www.facebook.com/groups/2795150127384924 who influenced the Lights on the Hill Mix.

Blavatsky and Tolley & Justin Robertson for their fabulous remixes

Rich Lane @Cotton Bud Mastering for the masterful mastering of all tracks

And finally to Jamie Tolley for believing in the track and forming the Evil Plan.

All profits are going to Andrew's favourite charities.

This is the release of the year - the Lights On The Hill remix is melancholic euphoria, distilled and the two remixes are right up there among the very best remixes of the year. The Justin Robertson remix is the best remix from him in years. The Blavatsky and Tolley remix is a chugging monster, I've been playing it out discreetly for a while and it tears the dance floor up - Rude Audio Zirkus Records

An inspired tribute to the man that quotes him both directly, aesthetically and spiritually. 4 excellently diverse mixes, with the slower ‘Lights On the Hill’ version being current fave. Spine tingly - Rich Lane Cotton Bud
