Surrounded by Funk is the fifth album on Howlinâ€™ Records from electronic / hip-hop DJ / producer Freddy Fresh. Mixing elements of electro, hip hop, breaks and funk with latin beats, downtempo grooves and reggaeton rhythms, Freddy provides us with a full spectrum release that covers all the Howlinâ€™ Records basses. With tracks featuring Keli of the Sneaker Pimps, London based Jamaican rapper Younger Youth and Tostao, the Colombian regueton rapper from the massive Latin American group Choc-quib-town Surrounded By Funk certainly lives up to its name. Described as the "Minneapolis B-boy and funk merchant" Freddy has been DJing since 1981 and making music since 1988 releasing over 200 records on Eye Q, SINE / Sony, Harthouse, Kingsize, Finger Lickin', Against The Grain, Virgin, Palm Pictures, 4AD, DMC, Go Beat, Super Best, EMI, Secret Service, Multiply, Independiente, Universal, Marlboro Music / WEA, Butterbeat and his own imprints. Production and remixes for Boogie Down Productions (KRS-1), Grandmaster Flash, Schooly D, Eminem, Heaven 17, Courduroy, Clinton, Zebda (France), Meat Beat Manifesto, Frankie Bones and Jacknife Lee. Collaborations with Fat Boy Slim, The Freestylers, Krafty Kuts, Air Liquide and releases under various pseudonyms including Modulator, Advanced Waveform Synthetix, Boris Karloff and Nitrate. He's hosted the Annie Nightingale show on Radio One and has recorded radio mixes for John Peel, Steve Lamacq, Chris Moyles, as well as providing Pete Tong with one of his most ever requested Essential Selection mixes and between performing worldwide compiled â€œFreddy Fresh Presents the Rap Recordsâ€ his definitive directory of hip hop book, covering the glory days of 1979 to 1988 - which won the Award For Excellence in Historical Recorded Sound Research (ARSC Award) in 2005. The album is preceeded by the first ever Howlin 12" release (Howlin1201) a sampler featuring a Malente Remix and two new exclusive tracks.
