5ive
A 5 track crossover jazz album (28m 36s) — released December 17th 2012 on Jazz Refreshed
The Sure Co. is a brand new collaboration between drummer Richard Spaven and pianist Grant Windsor. The project also features Neville Malcolm on bass.
Whilst working on so many projects both touring and recording together with; Jose James, Gregory Porter, Nailah Porter, and Ty, Richard, Grant and Neville often discussed putting together a band. It was whilst on the road in Germany with Nailah Porter; during soundcheck in fact that enough was enough and it was decided. It was time to produce the Sure Co. record.
If you have ever seen this trio onstage together you'll know there is always a connection and a communicative atmosphere between them. There is common musical ground and the transition to the studio was seamless.
The music on the debut record for Jazz Refreshed has an edge to it; a rough edge. The band's influences are apparent - in your face beats played with a broken beat intent. Harmonically searching and moody. Electronica flavours in a live jazz setting. You can appreciate the history the musicians share by the groove and interaction.
