For their first release of 2023, Kindergarten is thrilled to welcome to the label one of the most exciting young producers around. Having participated in many online musical communities during lockdown, including Martyn's mentoring programme and All Centre's Discord server, Sobolik's cuts on early reflex, Cloudcore, Woozy, and Martyn's 3024 label reflect the widespread respect they've gathered in a short time. Their knowledge is marked by their co-running All Centre, and since the end of lockdown they've quickly become a treasured part of the landscape of NYC dance music with their party Inside Voices and a thickening schedule of club and rave bookings. All of which is secondary to the music, and Sobolik makes jams. Slotting into Kindergarten's primary form, these tracks lean away from the "rich chords and glossy melodies" Sobolik recognises as part of their strengthening voice, allowing closer focus on rhythmic play and an embrace of freneticism. The result feels like classic Kindergarten, a hailstorm of maximalist invention wrought from the tumultuous highs and lows of Sobolik's first full year living in New York after lockdown. In Sobolik's own words, Packet Loss "expresses the tension between joy and discomfort, and roots itself firmly in the dancefloor to reflect its powerful role in [my] life as a site of becoming, healing, and catharsis."
