The glassy FM bell-like drones of System Works 001 slowly build in intensity then gradually mutate into a glowing organ hum ending on a positive note. In the spirit of Pauline Oliveros deep listening artist vision System Works 001 was recorded late at night in Tom's quiet home studio live in one take. Tom notes, "It felt like a mix of meditation and a Tai Chi exercise. I remember holding an almost static pose in front of my synth and changing parameters very slowly and deliberately over the recording duration. There was no computer to screen to be distracted by and I got completely immersed in what I was recording and felt such a sense of relaxation and calm after completing the session"

Overall System Works 001 is a deeply immersive and exploratory experience. It can be challenging at times, but also incredibly rewarding, opening up new ways of hearing and experiencing sound if the listener has an open mind.
