Cornbrail Acid II

A 16 track electro album (1h 9m 44s) — released March 7th 2014 on Love Love Records

We present to you the latest release from Scottish born, LA based, acid connoisseur, Richard Wilson aka Beatwife, demonstrating his formidable signature style once again in the form of Cornbrail Acid Part 2. Having recently completed a collaborative album for Planet Mu alongside Henry Collins under the alias Misty Conditions and currently working alongside Sid Wilson of Slipknot as a member of The Miami Vice Sound Crack, Richard has been consistently working on new material. Here taking the uplifting, sunshine acid themes he laid down on his first Cornbrail Acid album (Released in cassette form on Hyperboloid Records) and exploring them further, Richard exposes 16 prime cuts of Electro/Braindance retro-futurism, firmly setting in stone his inimitable wonk and sparkle.

A snapshot of the current Beatwife story, his very own 'Fear and Loathing in Los Angeles', Cornbrail Acid 2 was constructed at Moonbase Studio over the last few years whilst living amongst the palm trees and yellow beaches of California - fuelled by sunshine, beach parties & holy hot dogs. Richard pumps the album full of ballsy swagger, ramming it to the brim with classic melodies and wrapping it up with a silky-smooth production style - making it an altogether brighter and catchier experience than other examples of his output.

Commencing with a sense of urgency, Fluskins hits the ground running utilising a convulsing drum pattern and sticky bass line, pulled forwards by impending, wilting melodies. Maintaining the pace, Manthread Beats part 1 heightens the atmosphere, flitting between head-down bops and finger-twiddling sequences, before giving way to the cunning sweeps and squelches of Asphyx, hinting at devolving into something more chaotic. Before it gets the chance to however, Dwistco sees the holiday vibes come alive, and remain, with the idyllic respite of All My Friends - where both fuzzy and elastic synths slowly grow in anticipation before twisting themselves midway into a sandy acid romp.

Different threads of a laid-back, 80s aesthetic run throughout; from the jaunty vocoding of Wonder Maker and blood-soaked goth-pop of Shell Suits, to the trashy, unpredictable flow of Flash Buckle and the all-out feel-good ending of a John Hughes ritesdepassage movie that is Everyone's a Hero. This surreal hybrid of retro glitz and hyper-modern chic continues with Colmatron, playing around with delicately balanced splurges of euphoria and contemplative breakdowns, before the timeless splashes of Rubbing The Wrong Way draw the album to a close.

Recently having been selected by the Vestax & Casio corporations to develop sounds for a new line of synthesizer and mixing products, this album not only serves as a concise insight into Beatwife's musicianship, but also showcases a range of his prototype devices. His unique approach instills a sense of elation whilst still reaching comfortably into moodier realms, all in all providing a contemporary, and more widely palatable, take on psychedelic electronic ideals.
