Babo Moreno
A 8 track latin & world jazz album (41m 4s) — released September 26th 2025 on Matsuka
Babo Moreno spearheads a new generation of world leading British-Brazilian music. His debut self-titled album, is an ode from this British artist to his Brazilian heritage. It's an expression of joy, nostalgia and, at the same time, alienation through his dual identity. The enchanting mix of jazz & Brazilian influences (Forró, Ijexá, Maracatu) is an exuberant articulation of life as a young Londoner from an immigrant family, and the mix of Brazilian roots and London swag is unmatched. Think…Hermeto Pascoal meets Tony Allen and Eddie Palmieri in a Notting Hill bar.
Babo Moreno is the brainchild of Fabio De Oliveria, a respected drummer and percussionist.
Having worked with the likes of Sault, Jacob Collier, Terry Callier, Alfa Mist, Jalen Ngonda and Airto Moreira, he now steps forward with his own sound sitting alongside a new wave of Brazilian artists (Amaro Freitas,Bala Desejo, Tunico) who build upon the country's rich musical heritage.
Having sold out his London Latin Jazz Festival show and been selected as a Rising Talent by La Linea festival to support Francisco, el hombre at London's legendary Jazz Cafe, this debut project is well awaited by his fans: including the likes of Jordan Rakei, Giles Peterson & Jamie Cullum. The album features top-tier musicians such as Dennis Rollins (Maceo Parker, Pee Wee Ellis, Monty Alexander), Mercury Prize & Brit Award winner Ife Ogunjobi (Ezra Collective, WizKid, Burna Boy) and Tamar Osborn (Dele Sosimi), with a special feature from Baque Luar, a London-based collective of female and non-binary vocalists and percussionists. Babo's music has been celebrated across the UK Jazz community including BBC 6 Music, Jazz FM, BBC Radio 2, NTS, Worldwide FM & Soho Radio.
