Count Bass D is the Gregory Hines of this Hiphop music thing. Some DJ, others make beats. Heads everywhere spit lyrics either off the dome or noted, and many are even recognized as true MC's who actually manage to rock a crowd here & there. Few get by juggling two or more facets; and even a small number happen to be classically or self-taught piano players, drummers and strummers. Count Bass D does it all. And the fact that he also does it well, makes him the best in the business, pound-for-pound. Highlights: 'The Mingus Sextet' - a looped keyboard beat with the addition of strings and a country guitar over a traditional boom bap drum. 'Nina & Weldon? is a short piano piece that pays homage to Nina Simone and Weldon Irvine. By the release of his third solo-project, Dwight Spitz (2002), Count had mastered the art of the MPC sampler and now contributed a raw reflection of traditional Hiphop beats & rhymes. The underground market hailed it, as it captured the essence of the culture. Rolling Stone (February 2003) defined Dwight Spitz as a 'headphone masterpiece'. BEGBORROWSTEEL--scheduled for worldwide release early 2005 through UK-based Ramp Recordings--contains elements of Dwight Spitz, but more refined and a touch more experimental. More novel than Art For Sale (1997), BEGBORROWSTEEL is a clear example of a talented musician balancing rap music on his pinky finger. Count is presently in a Padded Room With a View plotting to take 2005 by storm with a half dozen new projects, including another full-length. Most recently, Count has been working with Futureman of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones on an innovative collaboration. Complete recordings with songstress, Dionne Farris and noted beat-maker, J. Rawls are in the can. Scheduled for early 2005 are joint projects with pal, MF DOOM; Prince Paul protégé, Paul Barman, and writer, Oriana lee. In between time, Count continues to shower the industry with an abundance of head-nod beats and clever verses. Having previously partnered with an eclectic range of artists, including: the Beastie Boys, Victor Wooten, Vitamin C, Matt Mahaffey (Self), MF DOOM, J-Live, and Van Hunt; Count continues to expand boundaries. Touted in independent Hiphop circles as one of the best producers on the MIC, Count Bass D consistently produces large quantities of quality music. Since day one he has labored with the intent of establishing a proper rep among credible musicians worldwide. Someday. Somehow. He will be crowned. Pound-for-pound. The toughest musician in Hiphop history. www.countbassd.com This project is a collection of shorter pieces; the audience is left pleased but sometimes cut short while enjoying a song. Count Bass D's lyrics come from a more abstract personal place that listeners may not fully comprehend, but he rides a beat very well. 'The Mingus Sextet' is a highlight, a looped keyboard beat with the addition of strings and a country guitar over a traditional boom bap drum. 'Nina & Weldon? is a short piano piece that pays homage to Nina Simone and Weldon Irvine. The lead single 'Down Easy' experiments with singing, a style the Count hasn't tried since Pre-Life Crisis, it has a more of a mellow country & funk sound to it. 'New Edition Karaoke' is another high point on this project as he has fun paying homage to Michael Bivins? quartet as a group along with their solo careers over a synthesized throwback song. 'Low Batteries' takes things back to the days of a tape recorder slowing down when it needed fresh new AAs while Count takes this time to send a warning shot to his competitors.'
