Flying East - Single

A 2 track roots reggae single (8m 6s) — released July 29th 2022 on Red Earth Music

Spiritual warm instrumental ska tune in an unconventional three/four time signature that highlights Soothsayers' reputation for innovation and exploration as well as embracing the fundamentals of classic genres. Flying East keeps the dancefloor bubbling wiith melodic call and response between flutes/hammond and horns, improvised solos by Idris Rahman and Robin Hopcraft, impeccable rhythm section contributions from Kishon Khan on keyboards, Victor Rice on bass, Bruno Barque on drums, Satin Singh on percussion, Joao Erbetta/Andrew Gibson on guitar, and sonically deep and musically inventive mixes by Victor Rice - this a heavy listening experience.

In 2019 Soothsayers' Robin Hopcraft and Idris Rahman went to Sao Paolo to spend some time with Victor Rice and some incredible local musicians, recording tracks for their album We Are Many (WahWah45s). A lot of great material was recorded, and some tracks from the same session formed the beginning of this instrumental album, which blossomed into a full-blown affair during lockdown and over the internet, recording Bruno Barque on drums with Victor on bass in Brazil and guitarist Joao Erbetta in Portugal whilst Robin and Idris directed over zoom in London. The shared feeling of connection shines through in the music despite the distance, and it never once feels that the music is anything other than a band in a room communicating, dancing and loving the music they're creating. The music is full of warmth, vibe and heavy groove, inviting you into its world in order to take you deep into a dubbed up trance.
