Breaks EP
A 5 track breaks ep (19m 32s) — released November 10th 2008 on Earth Connection
1Beat is Stu Roberts one of the UK's funkiest drummers. The 1Beat project is about music driven by drums inspired by beat-electronica pioneers like Billy Cobham, Bill Bruford and more recently The Bays' Andy Gangadeen . Stu played his first paid gig aged 11 and hasn't looked back since. Performances to festival crowds of 40,000 across the world to small gigs in front of 3 men and a dog have all contributed to a wealth of live experience over the past 20 years as a drummer working with artists as diverse as H from Steps to Talvin Singh and Evelyn Glennie.
"Andy Gangadeen was the first who really inspired my use of electronics and inspired me to make my own music. I love composers like Brahms and Debussy as well as Talvin Singh and Cinematic Orchestra. I try to think in terms of texture and colour in the music I make as 1Beat as well as the sessions I do for other people as a drummer and percussionist. For me, 1Beat is a chance to do the music I love to play without the boundaries of fitting into another artist's creative vision, but purely just let my hands follow my heart and mind. This record was a real treat to make and truly reflects restoring the live drummer back into the heart of dance music. One drummer and 1Beat - for the global dance of which we're all a part." Stu Roberts.
This EP showcases the meatier beats from the forthcoming 1Beat album. Having collaborated with Stu in the Dhol Foundation and in Bloco Electro it seemed like a natural next step to produce and release his debut album."
