maar

A 5 track ambient album (32m 3s) — released September 12th 2025 on Rosie Turton and Miryam Solomon

'maar' is an ambient improvised project by Rosie Turton and Miryam Solomon; an exploratory conversation between voice, modular synthesizer and trombone, across two sides of long unedited improvisations. Contemplative, textural, and at times fragile, it leans into the ambivalence of sense making; a space of searching, resolving, unraveling, and finding each other again.

The project began by chance at the end of a recording session in 2024 at Lightship 95 studio. With 20 minutes to spare, the two decided to use the remainder of the session to experiment with freely improvising with the voice and trombone: "It felt like we were having a different type of conversation", they write. More moments like these continued at Rosie's home studio, this time incorporating Rosie's modular synthesizer, and from these sessions emerged maar; a space where the two trace new landscapes together.

A sense of openness and thoughtful listening permeates the record, both between each other, and the sounds that seep in and colour the air; the crackle of a knob turning, a body shuffling, a small sigh at the end of a long phrase, act as an invitation to a process that favours honesty over perfection.

Miryam Solomon is a London-based vocalist & composer. Her work is underpinned by her love for interlocking rhythms, vocal interplay and storytelling. As an artist, performer and collaborator, her work spans a wide range of projects including recording for sound & film, and releasing on Blue Note Records.

Rosie Turton is a trombonist, modular synthesist, composer, and producer making waves on the UK jazz scene. Named 'One To Watch' by The Guardian and nominated for Jazz FM's 'Breakthrough Act of the Year', she blends meditative soundscapes with acoustic and electronic elements.
