Live at the Crypt (feat. Yusuf Ahmed, Idris Rahman, Tamar Osborn & Jihad Darwish)
A 7 track free improvisation ep (27m 49s) — released December 13th 2024 on Maps For Getting Lost
Following the release of their first EP: Portico which found support from music lovers and DJs worldwide including the likes of Gilles Peterson, Live From the Crypt provides a warmer and perhaps more intimate selection of improvisations within a short 30 minute EP digital format.
This recording utters fragmented memories from one September evening in 2021, when audience and band journeyed unknown worlds within the resounding stone walls of The Crypt, one of South London's most magical spaces.
On woodwinds, Idris Rahman and Tamar Osborn weave together the melodic fabric of this music. Their lyrical approach gracefully compliments one another, whether they play in unison or counterpoint.
Jihad Darwish oscillates between the sitar, double bass and electric bass, providing a bridge from melodic and harmonic worlds down to earthy, pulsating yet sensitive grooves which Yusuf Ahmed ties together on the drums and various hybrid percussion instruments.
Easily one of the best performances I've heard here. One of those where I wish I was in the audience rather than working at the bar. Mystical, surreal, ethereal are words that come to mind. - Diva Garg Photographer/magazine
Perfect trip to the Crypt. Surreal mastery of every instrument. Brings clarity and peace. - absinthefaery bandcamp
