Plastic Borough
A 7 track ambient album (33m ) — released April 5th 2024 on Running Circle Records
Plastic Borough is the first full length release from Son of Philip. An elegant, transportative and beguiling listen, set firmly apart from the grooved-out garage heaters that first gained him recognition. Throughout this heady and engaging record hypnotic, grainy textures and analogue warmth cast a heavy cloak over a sea of shifting sonics beneath. Beautifully melding fragmented synths against swirling clouds of particles, twisting and contorted sounds permeate the haze in an alluring and intoxicating blend.
"It's somewhere between broken and beautiful. Between organic and synthetic. A beautiful struggle in some ways" describes Son of Philip. Complementing three of the tracks, including 9 minute mind-bender 'Infinity', are the eerie and beautiful vocals of Swedish singer Ylva Grönlund. On the EP's title track 'Plastic Borough', Tom is also joined by Matthew Farrell on viola da gamba (a 15th century cello), adding a majestic and cinematic undercurrent to the proceedings. The record follows a string of short form releases on Wigflex, Trouble Maker and the label he co-founded Bliss Print.
