Shifting Sands
A 3 track crossover jazz single (13m 43s) — released September 4th 2024 on Running Circle Records
London-based experimentalists Kinkajous, led by drummer / producer Benoît Parmentier and saxophonist Adrien Cau, have shared their new single 'Shifting Sands'. The single is taken from their forthcoming album Nothing Will Disappear, which is set for release on October 18th via Nottingham's Running Circle label.
"Shifting Sands is built on free-flowing structures. This approach allowed a raw emotional depth to surface, creating both uplifting and somewhat sinking sensations. There's a vast amount of space within the track, allowing production details and orchestration subtleties to shine," adds Parmentier.
The forthcoming album Nothing Will Disappear is a whirling dreamland of electronic orchestrations and instrumental sensibility. Made up of bruised electronics that go back-to-back with compulsive drum patterns in a strobe-lit dance; their forthcoming album sees Kinkajous move into new territories, as it has echoes of Sam Shepherd's collaborative work with Pharoah Sanders as Floating Points, and the subtle timbre shifts of Jon Hopkins and James Holden more so than their capital-"J" jazz contemporaries.
