As much indebted to the classic pop and folk of the Beatles, Kinks, Davey Graham and Shirley Collins as to the fragmented sound experiments of Broadcast, Arthur Russell or Cluster, the Cold Spells attempt to make the familiar sound new, and try to prove that there are still ways to get fresh fruit from an old tree. Pastoral-electro, finger-picked, prog-psych, pop shanties, or something like that. The magpies have been out and about and doing their thing.
