The Halls of Piranesi (Extended Version)

A 8 track electronic album (30m 56s) — released November 4th 2022 on Gare du Nord Records

An album of electronic soundscapes from an imagined score inspired by scenes from the amazing novel 'Piranesi' by Susanna Clarke.

Following on from his 2019 odyssey and homage to Saint-Exupery this new album from Willie Gibson explores the fantastic world of Susanna Clarke's bestselling novel 'Piranesi'. Enter a surreal world, seemingly infinite, enigmatic, and mysterious and wander alone through vast empty halls, adorned with marble statues, listen to the surging tides, and cries of seabirds . . . . reality or merely an illusion – a trick of a mind in isolation.

After reading and re-reading 'Piranesi', the album was written and recorded in Willie G's studio in the East Anglian fens - the project was unsurprisingly started during the first Covid lockdown and reflects the deep sense of isolation that prevailed during that period, where we all felt the strain of being alone in our heads and slightly disconnected from reality.

The eight tracks depict specific locations and events in the novel and were conceived as parts of an imagined score were the novel ever be adapted for television.

As with Willie G's previous albums this is wholly electronic, featuring his Eurorack Modular – especially the Klee sequencer, a newly acquired Korg ARP2600M, Moog Subharmonicon, Roland SE-02, Doepfer Dark Energy, plus a few select soft synths and some atmos sfx.
