Melo Disko (feat. Rosey Chan & Mimi Xu)
A 8 track electronic album (32m 9s) — released June 21st 2019 on Gare du Nord Records
Carnet De Voyage is a collaboration between contemporary pianist and composer Rosey Chan and DJ/producer Mimi Xu - their debut album Melo Disko, produced by musician and film maker Mike Figgis, is released through Gare Du Nord Records this summer.
Carnet De Voyage have taken the blueprint of sequencer-driven electronica and constructed an album where sophisticated classical piano and icy synthscapes meet broken robot beats, gothic choral samples and French spoken word vignettes. Rosey and Mimi's almost oppositional musical tastes and talents create a taut synthesis of styles encompassing experimental electronica, sophisto-techno and sultry downbeat ambiences making Melo Disko a precisely expressive and consummately executed debut album.
The avant-lounge trumpet-led Broken Time Machine whisks Miles Davis into Kraftwerk's Hall Of Mirrors and jaunts between heyday A Certain Ratio and current EDM, while the deadpan electro surrealism of Permit to Drive steers like a no-wave nod to the Pet Shop Boys' bleak banality via Chicks On Speed, and motors Laurie Anderson into Grace Jones vibe-town.
